Addressing the Multiple-Source Audio/Video Needs of Today’s Productions, PIX 270i Garners Major Nod from Industry Publication’s Readers.
NEW YORK, DECEMBER 8, 2014 — Sound Devices, along with its new video-products brand Video Devices, is pleased to announce that the Video Devices PIX 270i video recorder has garnered an Innovative Products Award from Sound & Video Contractor magazine. The PIX 270i is among 30 products, chosen by close to 1,000 of the publication’s readers, to win the accolade this year. The awards honor electronic and mechanical innovation in professional AV products.
The Video Devices PIX 270i has achieved this latest milestone on the heels of a major win earlier this year, when Sound & Video Contractor named it one of its “Best in Show” products at InfoComm 2014. The network-connected, multiple-drive video deck offers comprehensive AV record and playback tools for house-of-worship (HOW), corporate, live event and other production applications. It seamlessly replaces tape- and disc-based video decks.
“We are thrilled to receive such a prestigious award from one of the top publications in the AV industry,” says Paul Isaacs, VP of Marketing and Product Design. “It is especially notable because the PIX 270i was chosen by the readers of Sound & Video Contractor. This indicates to us that people working in the field find this product to be highly beneficial to their production workflows. It’s extremely gratifying to us.”
The PIX 270i features extensive network connectivity, and can be connected over Ethernet for simultaneous, frame-accurate grouped recording and playback, delivering a cost-effective, scalable solution addressing the multiple-camera recording and multiple-screen playback needs of today’s productions. Any number of PIX 270i decks can be grouped, controlled and configured as a single system from either the hardware or the built-in Web browser-based control panel, called PIXNet, offering significant advantages and time savings for production workflows.
As with other members of the PIX line of IP-connected video decks, the PIX 270i is equipped with PowerSafeTM and FileSafeTM technology. PowerSafe circuitry provides a built-in 10-second power reserve to allow for safe stoppage of file operations and proper shutdown. This ensures that a complete power loss has no effect on recordings. FileSafe protects vital files by automatically detecting and repairing corrupted file headers. If a drive is inadvertently removed during recording, FileSafe will repair the files the next time the drive is mounted.
The PIX 270i, provides tapeless, file-based recording of edit-ready Apple ProRes (up to ProRes4444) or Avid DNxHD files, and allows simultaneous multiple-drive recording, giving production staff the peace of mind of rock-solid redundancy and backup capabilities with four drives. Its audio capabilities include 64 channels of both MADI audio and Dante audio-over-Ethernet.
The PIX 270i also includes high-performance hardware scalers and frame-rate converters allowing recording of up-, down- or cross-converted 3G-SDI or HDMI signals at the same or a different frame rate. Hardware-based 3:2 pull-down removal is also available. With its built-in Ambient Clockit time-code generator/reader with genlock output, the PIX 270i is designed for multiple-camera and double-system sound applications. In addition to generating ultra-stable time code, time code can be read from the SDI stream, the HDMI stream or external sources. The unit’s convenient 1/2-rack, 2U chassis dimension allows it to be easily integrated into any existing environment. It is powered by 10-27 VDC through a four-pin XLR connector, with a secondary DC input for power supply redundancy.
